KALBELIA QUILT - RED
The KALBELIA QUILT is a multilayered textile, traditionally composed of two or more layers of fabric, embellished with embroidery and mirror work.
The layers traditionally include a woven cloth, a layer of batting or wadding, and a woven back, combined using the technique of quilting. The base of the quilt is created with running stitch (kantha), on which sits embroidery of cotton or woollen threads, with the inclusion of mirror work, and applique work at the borders.
Every quilt takes more than 2 to 3 months of work to make.
The Kalbelia Craft Revival Project seeks to support the Kalbeliya community, and in the process revive and preserve their craft.
Design is in the genes of many indigenous communities which have identified India globally...but they are not valued. (loosely from Madan Meena)
Your purchase of one of these unique and enchanting Kaleblia quilts helps to support these artisans.
This particular quilt is red with multicoloured emboidery on the front, and plain tumeric yellow on the reverse.
A timeless piece to be treasured.
